Each month, selected companies are given questionnaire surveys which provide an advance indication of what is really happening in the private sector economy. The data is published in the Purchasing Managers’ Manufacturing Index. For the month of November, the nation’s manufacturing sector grew to well over 50 at a 10-month high of 54.7 vs 54.3 for the mid-month flash and vs 51.8 for final October. Output, which is the 2nd most heavily weighted component, is up to 57.4 vs October’s 51.8, for the 4th gain in the manufacturing component of the industrial production report. Factory payroll’s been on the rebound since August, but the employment index in this report is at 52.3 for a 4 tenths dip from October.
